She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, W.T. She was beloved “Lou Lou” to 13 grandchildren: John and Ellison Wofford Maria Louise and Analisa Stratienko Richard Baker and Lissie Baker Ayorinde (Seyi) Emma Williams Fetty (Joe) Caroline King Rider (Dustin), Claire and Corinne King Henry, Meredith and Sam Robinson and her nieces Kate Robey Worthy and Donna Robey Carlson. Martha Lou is survived by her husband Buddy and six children: Beth Derrick Wofford (John), Lisa King Stratienko, Catherine Derrick Baker (Tom), Beth King Williams (Emmett), Clark King Jr. Above all, she was known for her beauty, impeccable style, and her loving generosity to family and friends. Martha Lou and her adoring, devoted husband, Homer E. She was a member of the Natural Bridge Garden Club for over 60 years, thoroughly enjoyed her friendships in the Investment Club, and was a faithful member of Lexington Presbyterian Church. Martha Lou dedicated her life to making Rockbridge County a better place as a community volunteer and served on multiple boards, including Southern Seminary Junior College, Southern Virginia University and Project Horizon. She was actively involved in the founding of CornerStone Bank, designing the bank’s interior decor, assisting with construction, and coordinating special events. She went on to own several local businesses, including the world-renowned College Town Shop, where she dressed and mentored generations of college students and local residents. She was raised in Buena Vista, graduated from Southern Seminary secondary school, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Hollins College.įollowing graduation, she worked for Rockbridge County Child Welfare Services, then taught Interior Design and Studio Art at Southern Seminary. Martha Lou was born on December 23, 1933, in the Stonewall Jackson House Hospital in Lexington to William Thomas and Louise Kimball Robey.
